FAQ
What dog behavior issues can you help with?
We specialize in puppy struggles, and love solving problems between kids and dogs. We can also help with a variety of issues, including leash pulling, jumping up, destructive chewing, housetraining, resource guarding, and integrating a newly adopted dog. Reach out to ask us about your dog’s individual struggles.
How long does dog training take?
During the initial consult, we will evaluate your dog and provide you with a recommended number of sessions to reach your training goals. Ultimately, the speed of training depends on your ability to consistently carry out weekly homework assignments (Don’t worry, we keep it short and sweet.)
If you’re just working on a single behavior issue, it can usually be resolved within 3 weekly sessions. If you’re dealing with multiple issues, or would like a full round of basic obedience training, we recommend 6-9 weeks of training. All training requires management and regular practice to maintain long-term results, otherwise your dog will forget their lessons just like you forgot your high school algebra 😉
Do you offer board and train?
At this time we don’t offer board and train. We’ve found that the best long term results are achieved when the owner is an active part of the training process. After all, you’re the one who will be handling your dog, for the rest of their life. We utilize a coaching model, where we meet up with clients for 1-hour weekly dog training sessions and provide homework assignments. For our clients who have limited time to work with their dogs between sessions, we offer Field Trips. We pick up your dog for an hour, take them to a dog-friendly location, and in short, do your homework for you!
What vaccinations does my dog need?
To participate in any type of training, we require that adult dogs have had their core puppy vaccines (Distemper, Adenovirus, Parvovirus, and Rabies), and that they are up to date on yearly boosters, or titer tests.
Puppies should have had their first vaccine, prior to the start of training, and remain up to date on their series of puppy vaccines throughout training.
Dogs participating in Field Trips must be current on monthly preventative flea, tick, and heartworm treatments.
How much does training cost?
Initial consult pricing is $145, and follow-up sessions are $75-85 per session, depending on the number of sessions purchased upfront. During the initial consultation, we will provide you a recommendation for the number of follow-up sessions needed to reach your dog training goals.
How do I get started with dog training?
Your first step is to reach out and book a free Discovery Call, to determine if our services are a good match for you and your dog’s needs. On the call, we can help with scheduling your initial consult.
What should I bring to dog training sessions?
During our sessions, we ask that you keep handy a notebook, your dog’s 6-foot leash, training treats, and your dog’s flat collar or harness. Also you’ll want your dog to be hungry during our sessions. It makes the learning go much faster.
How much homework do I have to do between sessions?
In order to reach your training goals, it’s essential that you put the training plan into practice in everyday life. That includes many exercises and routines that can be worked into your daily activities. For dedicated homework time, you’ll need approximately 15 minutes per day.
